OUR HISTORY

The Lovelady Methodist Episcopal Church South was officially organized in 1872. In the early years, the church was served by circuit rider preachers. They met in homes and later shared the Presbyterian church building. In 1892 the Presbyterians sold the building, and all of the furnishings, to the trustees of the Methodist church for the sum of $400.00. In 1909-1910, this building was replaced with the beautiful white cement block building, with it's magnificent Tiffany stained glass windows. This is the same building where we worship today. Our church has been on this same corner for 110 years. In 2010, our church was recognized as a Methodist Historical Place by the United Methodist Commission on History and Archives. The church also has a State of Texas Historical Marker. If the walls of this old church could talk, they would tell of the many spirit-filled sermons that have been preached from her pulpit...the beautiful wedding cermonies where couples have pledged to love each other and to serve God...the many babies that have been dedicated to God. The seeds that have been planted in the hearts of those who have come to this church, are now bearing many fruit in places near and far. Many pastors have served this church. For this rich heritage, we are truly blessed!  The Lovelady First United Methodist Church also has a sister in church in Darby, England.
